William E Fairbairn (F-12)
#1130
| Father | Donald F Fairbairn |
| Intro | William was co-opted into the project to help determine if the reported "cousins" do actually fit where the charts on this site say, ie his 2*great grandfather John A Fairbairn Snr of Stillwater is indeed the son of David, brother of William. |
| Lineage (Testee) | William E was found to be part of Fairbairn Lineage 1 "clump 1", see here for chart. |

| GeneticDistance (Testee) | At 12 markers the theoretical Genetic Distance (GD) calculations from William show: zero to Earl, Roy and Martin; 1 to Doug, David, David, Joe and (F-8); and thus belongs to the first "clump" of lineage 1. |
| GeneticDistance (Testee) | At 25 markers the theoretical Genetic Distance (GD) calculations from William show: 1 to Earl, Roy and Martin; 2 to Doug, David, David and Joe; 3 to (F-8); with what looks like marker 464b, one of the faster mutating ones, being the defining signature (so far) for this line of FAIRBAIRNs, given that all the others in Lineage 1 have a value of 14, and Bill's results show a value of 12. |
| GeneticDistance (Testee37Markers) | At 37 markers the theoretical Genetic Distance (GD) calculations from William show: 2 to Earl and Roy; 3 to Martin; 4 to Michael and Ron; 5 to David(CAMPBELL), Doug(BLAKEY) and Joe; 6 to Doug(GOODFELLOW) and Tom; 7 to John(JOHNSTON); 9 to David(TROTTER) and (F-8). |
| GeneticDistance (Testee) | At 67 markers the theoretical Genetic Distance (GD) calculations from William show: 2 to Earl and Roy; 5 to Martin; 7 to Joe; 9 to David; (for those beyond GD 9, the others are: 11 to F-8; 12 to Doug (F-6)). All can be marked somewhat closer though as 2 of the mistmatches are on faster mutating markers, and there is such a good match over the other markers. One of the faster mutating markers is 464b, which Bill is the only one in the group to have different, so is presumed to signify his branch, and the other, CDYa shows 3 different values over the 10 participants to date. |
| Summary (Witness) | We now have the preliminary dna results in for William (F-12), a documented descendant of John A Fairbairn Snr of Stillwater, Washington Co, MN, with Bill is indeed showing as an excellent match to Roy (F-3), the descendant of John's uncle William (phew!) The relationship to the other side of the Hoquiam triangle is rather murkier however as the representative of the Sunderland side of the triangle, Joe (F-10), belongs to "clump 2" of lineage 1. Still related, but how? With the full 67 marker results in, it rather looks like the 3rd side of the triangle represented by Joe (F-10), is showing marginally closer relationships with the lines of Thomas Fairbairn (marr. Elspeth Redpath), John Fairbairn (marr. Helen Campbell) and Trotter (marr. Jane Fairbairn) Fairbairn) lines. The expected relations above come a close second. The stated Genetic Distances of 5 for the lines of Thomas (REDPATH) and John (CAMPBELL) and 6/7, the John (FLINT) lines, can probably be marked one less because of the faster mutating markers involved. |
