Eligible males who can document their descent from those listed here would be particularly welcome to join the project, (as would any others for that matter).
If able and willing to help, check out the at project FAQs etc, and when ready, and comfortable that this is a harmless process, we would love for you to join us.
The project may be able to subsidise up to 37 markers for particular lines, although please note that the preferred test is 67 markers.
Donations from anyone wishing to help finance the fun can be made via a secure Contribution link on the FamilyTree DNA Fairbairn project pages.

Abbreviated Lineage Charts
Family of Archibald and Alison (CROSSER) FAIRBAIRN
None of the representatives of this line already in the project are fully confirmed descendants of Archibald and Alison (CROSSER) FAIRBAIRN.
Martin (F-1) is believed to belong to Archibald (married Janet SCOTT), assumed eldest son of Archibald and Alison.
Doug (F-14), with the help of dna evidence and paper trail hints, also belongs to this Archibald.
Michael (F-16), again with the help of dna evidence and paper trail hints, is believed to belong to a previously unknown son of Walter, confirmed son of Archibald and Alison.
So, the project would very much like a representative from a confirmed son of Archibald and Alison to further clarify the dna signature for this line. Anyone from the following families would be most welcome.
(David, James and Walter are siblings, all children of Archibald and Alison (CROSSER) FAIRBAIRN, and presumed to be brothers of the above Archibald.)
- Wanted: David and Jane (Herd) Fairbairn Scotland to Ontario thence Wisconsin
- Wanted: James and Joan (Forsyth) Fairbairn Eckford to Selkirk, descendants to Canada and USA (as well as Edinburgh)
- Wanted: Walter and Agnes (Robison) Fairbairn Morebattle, with sons who lived in Jedburgh and Canonbie and well scattered descendants
The "cousins"
A representative of the following family would be most welcome to further clarify the rumoured "cousin" relationships between three separate lines where the paper trail hasn't yet shown how all three sides of the Hoquiam triangle can claim to be "cousins".
To date the evidence is by inference, with a dna match between William (F-12) a documented descendant of "John of Hoquiam", and Roy(F-3), a documented descendant of William and Jean (WANLESS) FAIRBAIRN, William and David believed to be siblings.
- Wanted: David and Jane (Williamson) Fairbairn David is brother to the William who married Jean Wanless.
DNA connected families: clarification required
DNA testing has shown that a connection exists between most of the Borders Fairbairn families, but additional representatives, on different lines, distant to the existing participants, would be a great help in clarifying their relationships.
- Wanted: Robert and Ann (Curle) Fairbairn Robert is a proven son of George and Janet (Murray) Fairbairn and a representative of Rober's line would help confirm the line of James and Helen (Goodfellow) Fairbairn in particular.
- Wanted: John Fairbairn & Jessie Johnston A world wide family (Scottish Borders, England, Orkneys, British Guiana, Australia, New Zealand ++)
Potential connections
It is highly likely that a connection exists to some of the families below- Wanted: James and Marybell (Thomson) Fairbairn Another line with Eckford connections
- Wanted: Robert and Elizabeth (Young) Fairbairn Another line with Eckford connections
- Wanted: David and Margaret (Whillans) Fairbairn David is another son of the Melrose born Robert who moved to Norfolk.
Lines needing confirming signatures
Representatives exist in the project for each of the following families, but as sole representatives, it would be great to get a confirming dna signature for each line to help clarify any connections.

- Wanted: Thomas & Jean (Lawson) Fairbairn The line of Fife FAIRBAIRNs
- Wanted: John & Helen (Grieve) Fairbairn The line of Cockburnspath/Oldhamstocks FAIRBAIRNs
