Discussion - overall project

All 8 of the SINTON project participants in haplogroup R1b (R-M269) are shown to be connected, even the Irish line.

There are 7 markers with differences, over 8 participants, and 5 of those 7 are faster mutating markers.

Amongst the 8 matching R1b (R-M269) participants, there is a proven paper trail between Lester (S-2) and Peter (S-1), and with the help of this dna evidence, a plausible connection can be made to the other Southdean Sinton lineage, that of Stephen (S-3).  A bit more guesswork is needed to join up Roy (S-4)'s Jedburgh line, and any connection to Bob (S-5)'s Irish contingent is pure conjecture, but at least he matches (36/37) his paper trail match, S-7.

More participants most welcome, both from other lines, and also distant cousins of those already in the project, as the latter will help determine more accurate dna signatures for each line.

For what it's worth, using the Y-STR Allele Frequencies for haplogroups listed in ysearch and public projects as displayed in table at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~geneticgenealogy/yfreq.htmL (which appears to have last been updated in 2007) it seems that the majority of the STR values we've found are relatively common within the R1b population analysed.
The exceptions appear to be (in decreasing rarity and ignoring any found in more than 15% of the R1b population):
DYS447 of 27 which value only appeared in 1% of the R1b population at the sample time (only Stephen S-3 has 27, the other participants all having 26, which appears in 11%)
DYS448 of 20, appearing in 5%
DYS442 of 11 in 12%
All of the matching set of participants have these last two values so far.
Jun 2016 saw the addition of another SINTON line, one from Northumberland, and in haplogroup R1a (R-M198).
DNA signature needs verification, but this branch of SINTONs is not related to the others tested on this evidence.
